As a practitioner of Buddhist Psychology, I believe that our psychological state depends not so much on our circumstances, but more on how we relate to what life brings our way. Life can be difficult but as humans we tend to add additional layers of psychological suffering by how we engage with our experience.
We all can experience the qualities associated with mental health like insight, wisdom balance, wisdom joy, kindness and love.
As also work in the interface between Buddhist psychology and the Western psychological traditions. I am a trained Gestalt Psychotherapist. In this rich method I attempt to move towards a nuanced and compassionate meeting of people as they are. I work in a process-orientated way and pay attention to the immediate felt sense and embodiment.
As awareness grows and clients become more skilful in their embodied awareness, they can become more receptive and choiceful.
My hope is they gain the ability to actualise themselves within the limits of their life circumstances. All people can have moments of beauty, reach their potential and have a good meaningful life. To gain levels of insight we also need to become more skilful at regulating our bodies for calm.
